In a controversial decision that has drawn attention from users already, Twitter no longer enables users to view the latest tweets first by default. Twitter will launch an update that defaults to the Home timeline that’s primarily filled with recommended tweets.
However, users still have the option to browse the reverse-chronological timeline. But with Update, Twitter is making it difficult for users to access the old Chronological timeline.
Twitter Makes Home Feed the Default
Some users previously criticized Twitter when it shifted from its chronological timeline to a new system that displayed recommended tweets instead. Eventually, meanwhile, the social media platform provided an option that allowed users to view recent tweets by default when enabled.
However, nowadays, it’s no longer the case. The latest Update from Twitter no longer enables users to view the chronological timeline by default.
The report stated Twitter is now pushing out this upgrade to iOS users and will soon push it to Android and Web. As revealed by the company on its own Twitter profile, users will also have two tabs at the upper half of the app to switch between Home.
This means you can still view the tweets in chronological order; however, you can’t access them by default as the Home tab will still be the first to display. A Twitter representative also verified that Update has been introduced but mentioned that the company may alter this again in the future.
Twitter users, though, were quick to respond. They pumped in negative feedback over the alterations. Many of them noted that they would prefer to view the latest tweet by default and that the new Update has made the timeline more confusing.
Instagram, meantime, has been testing the new feed settings that bring back chronological order without giving post recommendations.
According to Twitter’s initial tweet from its official support account, it makes the algorithm-powered Home the default page. The Update is rolling out on Twitter’s iOS app and is anticipated to reach Android and web users shortly.
If you are interested in reading the latest tweets from individuals you follow, you will have to pin the “Latest Tweets” feed as a separate tab on the home page. However, users would have to swipe left from the “Home” page every time to see the timeline of the recent tweet. Currently, there is no option to pin the Recent Tweets feed as the default tab.
Twitter verified that the Home timeline would be pinned by default in response to a Twitter user’s inquiry. “The Home timeline will be pinned first by default, but you can easily reach the Latest timeline by swiping left on Home. We’ll share your comments and suggestions with the team,” states the tweet.
Twitter’s move to create “Home” the default feed appears like an attempt to increase interaction throughout the platform instead of communicating with individuals you’re aware of or choose to follow.
Reacting to the criticism, Twitter says it is gathering feedback. However, it remains to be seen whether we will have the authority to adjust the Latest timeline as the default tab.
Twitter is making it challenging for people to access the old Chronological feed
To recall, the technology giant offered an option previously where users could view the latest tweets by default. The feature was implemented to offset the recommended tweets replaced by the chronological timeline.
The Update is currently available for iOS users, and shortly it will be made accessible for Android users as well. The company released a tweet telling more facts about it. Furthermore, there are two tabs at the top of the app to move between Home and Latest Tweets.
However, you will be sad to realize that you will also not be able to make the chronological feed your default after you have updated the functionality. Instead, you will only be able to assign Home as your default or set up the two Home and Latest Tweets tabs and change them as required.
As per the Twitter representative, the social network can modify this again in the future.
To remember, the tech giant is also developing a new function that enables users to report offensive, irrelevant Twitter responses. The US-based microblogging company stated that the feature is accessible for selected web users but will progressively extend downvoting to iOS and Android users.
- You need to click on the sparkle sign in the upper right corner to set it all up.
- Afterward, click on the ‘Latest Timeline’
- You will see two options, “Home” and “Recent Tweets,” at the top of the iOS app.
- If you use the saved lists on the iOS app, you will find it looks familiar.
